Aline Brünger: Please freeze me! Zum aktuellen Stand der Kryonik.
Im Jahr 2216: Es zischt, es dampft, und aus der silbernen Kühlbox steigt, noch etwas wacklig, Walt Disney, setzt sich an den nächsten Tisch und zeichnet eine Micky-Maus. Ein reines Sci-Fi-Klischee? Immerhin gelang es im letzten Jahr, mithilfe einer neuen Technik (der Aldehyd-stabilisierten Kryopräservierung), die Struktur eines kompletten Kaninchenhirns zu erhalten. Das wirft biologische wie philosophische Fragen auf, etwa: Wie kann man ganze Menschen einfrieren, über viele Jahre lagern und reanimieren, ohne dass Schäden entstehen? Und ist man danach noch der- oder dieselbe?
Aline hat Kognitions- und Neurowissenschaften studiert und arbeitet jetzt als Datenanalystin bei einer Dating-App. Mit Kryonik hatte sie nicht viel am Hut, bis sie auf einen enthusiastischen Blogartikel von Wait But Why zum Thema stieß. Noch ist sie aber zu skeptisch, zu geizig und nicht tot genug, um sich einfrieren zu lassen.

That humans tell each other stories is one of the species’ defining characteristics. Storytelling is an evolutionary adaptation that helps us understand and come to terms with our world, indeed to survive in it. Certain narrative structures seem to be required for a story to carry meaning and have an emotional effect. Though we all consume stories every day, figuring out the nuts and bolts of how stories are built is not so easy. This brief talk will shed some light on the secrets of fiction, focusing on plot and character development.
Olaf Bryan Wielk has spent years trying to figure out why some stories seem to work better than others. He has a first class MA hons in English und German, spent many years working for top German publishers, and founded www.beemgee.com. His company provides online tools that help authors turn their plot and character ideas into structured stories. The years of work that went into creating Beemgee’s digital plot-outlining and character development software have made a bit of a nerd of Olaf, and now he loves nothing better than to explain to people what to look out for when they feel the urge to write a story.
